Hi all,
I’m wondering if anyone has any ideas about how to get a screen reader to pause in its flow of speech, or to manually increase the silence between one word and the next.

Great topic!
Screen reader pauses usually work well with punctuation such as a period or a comma.

You can try using punctuation like commas, periods, or em dashes to create natural pauses. Some screen readers also respect HTML tags like <span aria-hidden=”true”> </span> for adding silent gaps. If you need longer pauses, inserting hidden text like [pause] might work, depending on the reader. Though, I was totally unfamiliar with e-books but then I collaborated with a digital agency, and got to know such processes about the process of screen readers.
