Hi,
We’ve published a book in which the authors use punctuation and formatting to flag various things for readers:
“Conforming to practices in linguistics, when a word is rendered in an Indigenous language using the standard orthography of that language, and can be considered linguistically accurate and official, we use italics. Other attempted transcriptions of Indigenous-language words [from settler sources]…are enclosed in {curly brackets}.”
Have folks come across this kind of thing before? The use of curly brackets seems to be causing an issue in that the text within the brackets is spelled out.
Any thoughts or suggestions would be great!
Thank you!
