Hello, I am working with a template that has until now not used automatic endnotes. The template uses symbols for the first two or three endnotes (placed after the title and author names), and then numbering (1 onwards) from the body onwards.  Our designer produces individual InDesign documents for each chapter of the book and combines them using the Book Panel, and the symbols/numbering restarts at the beginning of each chapter.

I would like to change the endnotes to be automatically numbered, to create links between the markers and notes. I have read the Adobe guidance and but I cannot see anywhere whether it is possible to use a combination of symbols and numbers – I expect not.

Does anyone have experience of using both symbols and numbers in automatic endnote lists? Is there also anything that I should be aware of when using the Book Panel and automatic endnotes?

I do not have a lot of experience, so I find it difficult to work with InDesign Books when it comes to creating epubs. All too often the styles are not properly synchronized.

So for the purpose of exporting to the epub, I have started to create a single indd file of the book to work from. I use successive “moves” of each “chapter” to the end of the single indd file, making sure that the pagination is not changed.

So far, I’ve not encountered any difficulties.
